1. Evidence
Photograph the vehicle, registration, exact position and relevant site context. Record dates and keep the originals.
2. Notice & contact
Where applicable, use the 28 day notice workflow and keep copies and service evidence. Use appropriate keeper/contact routes.
3. Recovery
Once the case has been assessed and the required authority is established, arrange suitable recovery for the vehicle's condition.
4. Vehicle assessment
Consider make, model, age, mileage, condition, MOT, damage, parts demand, resale potential and scrap/recycling route.
5. Reuse, salvage or disposal
Where lawful, the vehicle may be directed toward whole vehicle resale, parts, recycling or authorised end of life treatment.
6. Records
Keep the case file, recovery record and disposal or sale documentation together. Where an ATF destroys an eligible vehicle, a Certificate of Destruction may be issued.
