Private Land Vehicle Removal Guide
What landowners and property managers should document before an unwanted, abandoned or unauthorised vehicle is removed.
1. Establish the facts
Start with photographs and a written record. Capture the registration, make and model, colour, exact position, condition, visible damage and when the vehicle was first identified.
2. Confirm your authority
Record why you are entitled to deal with the land, such as landowner, freeholder, landlord, managing agent or another authorised representative.
3. Check the vehicle
Tell CarClamp if the vehicle may be stolen or if there are any other concerns. We will assess the case and deal with the appropriate recovery route, including liaison with the police where required.
4. Serve and record the notice
Where the applicable CarClamp process uses a 28 day notice, complete it accurately, place or serve it appropriately, photograph it in place and keep a copy.
5. Short notice route for long standing vehicles
Where a vehicle has already been abandoned for more than 28 days and no earlier Tort notice has been served, a shorter notice route may be available in appropriate circumstances. Where the applicable process permits, a one day notice may be used. CarClamp will assess the evidence and circumstances before removal.
6. Arrange recovery and assess value
Once the appropriate route and authority are confirmed, professional recovery can be arranged. We can also assess whether the vehicle is better suited to whole vehicle resale, salvage, parts or recycling, depending on its condition and legal position.
