Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers about how we assess private land vehicle removal enquiries.

Can you remove any vehicle from private land?

No. Each case must be assessed, including the landowner’s authority, the vehicle’s circumstances and the applicable legal process.

Do you clamp vehicles?

No. CarClamp.com is positioned as a private land vehicle removal and clearance business, not a wheel clamping operation.

Can an abandoned vehicle simply be sold?

Not automatically. Ownership, title, notice, disposal and other legal requirements need to be considered for the particular vehicle.

Can you check keeper information?

There are specific DVLA routes for obtaining vehicle information in certain circumstances. The evidence and authority required should be checked for each case.

What should I send with an enquiry?

Registration, make/model, location, photographs, how long it has been present and evidence of your authority are useful starting information.

Why does CarClamp use a 28 day notice?

Where the applicable CarClamp process uses a 28 day notice, the period is stated clearly and the notice date is recorded. The exact legal requirements still depend on the circumstances of the case.

What happens after 28 days?

If the vehicle remains and the relevant process has been followed, the landowner or authorised representative can submit the case to CarClamp for assessment. Expiry of 28 days does not by itself transfer ownership.

If a vehicle has already been abandoned for more than 28 days and no earlier Tort notice has been served, a shorter notice route may be available in appropriate circumstances. Where the applicable process permits, a one day notice may be used. CarClamp will assess the evidence and circumstances before removal.

What if the vehicle looks stolen?

If you believe the vehicle is stolen, contact CarClamp and provide the vehicle details. We will assess the case and deal with the appropriate recovery route, including liaison with the police where required.

Can a vehicle be worth more than scrap?

Yes. A vehicle can be assessed for whole vehicle resale, salvage, parts or recycling where lawful and commercially appropriate. The route depends on the vehicle and the legal position.
